"Thiel’s program and my time there are so special. I joined the program as a non-traditional student. I was 26 years old, had a 5-year-old son, and about halfway through pursuing my master’s degree, life threw a curveball, and I was diagnosed with blood cancer. The professors, staff members, and my cohort at Thiel were nothing short of amazing throughout that uncertain time in life. For a while, I wasn't sure if I would be able to finish my clinical rotations and the workload required of a graduate student while I underwent multiple surgeries, week-long hospital stays, chemotherapy, and also tried to focus on my family. Nonetheless, every professor showed me reassurance, and my classmates showered me in kindness and support as I continued to work toward the finish line. Fortunately, I made it and was able to graduate with the rest of my cohort right on time! I also got amazing news shortly after graduation that I was cancer-free and was officially in remission. (Today) I am working at Thrive Therapy Works (a small SLP-owned company), as an evaluating clinician for a public virtual charter school, called Georgia Cyber Academy. I currently hold the role as an evaluator/diagnostician and help train the new SLPs joining the GCA team that are hired through Thrive Therapy Works."
