State Authorization
Online Learning Across State Lines
Thiel College is committed to providing quality online education while complying with state authorization regulations for distance education programs. Our online Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program is currently authorized to accept U.S. residents from all states EXCEPT: Arizona, Texas and Vermont.
Thiel College participates in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). This national agreement supports access to online education across participating states and promotes consistent standards for distance learners.
Planning for Professional Practice
The Online Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology prepares you for professional practice and supports the academic and clinical requirements associated with speech-language pathology licensure and national certification.
For SLP licensure, every state requires:
- A graduate degree in speech-language pathology
- A passing score on the PRAXIS Examination in Speech-Language Pathology
Licensure requirements for speech-language pathologists vary by state and are subject to change. Because licensure requirements vary by state and may change over time, students are responsible for understanding and remaining informed on the requirements established by the licensing board in the state where they intend to practice. Enrollment in the program does not guarantee licensure, certification, or employment.
Please be aware that some states require a separate credential to practice in the school system, which may have additional requirements. If a state Department of Education requires a separate credential to practice in the school system, you must obtain that credential to practice in schools. It is the student's responsibility to determine what is required to obtain the credential to work in the school system. It is the student’s responsibility to remain up to date on all state licensure requirements.
Please review our State Licensure Disclosure for additional information and state-specific requirements.
