Clinical Placement Support

Support That Extends Beyond the Classroom

Clinical education is where knowledge becomes practice. Through supervised clinical experiences, students develop the clinical judgment, professional skills, and confidence needed to serve diverse populations across the lifespan.

Thiel College's Online M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology program includes dedicated clinical placement support to help students navigate this important part of their educational journey.

Faculty-Guided Clinical Education

Thiel College provides placement services to help facilitate clinical experiences that meet program requirements. Faculty and staff work with students throughout the process and determine site eligibility based on certification, accreditation, and licensure requirements. Students complete their clinical experiences under the supervision of qualified on-site practitioners while receiving guidance from Thiel faculty.

Placement Support Every Step of the Way

Students are not expected to navigate the placement process alone. Thiel's placement services team works to help identify opportunities near a student's home location and helps establish agreements with approved clinical sites. Our goal is to help remove barriers while preparing students for meaningful clinical learning experiences.

Experience Across the Scope of Practice

Clinical experiences are designed to provide exposure to the breadth and depth of speech-language pathology practice. Students complete supervised experiences in a variety of settings and work with diverse populations across communication, cognitive-communication, voice, fluency, feeding, and swallowing disorders.

Understanding Travel Expectations

The placement team works closely with students to identify opportunities within their preferred geographic area whenever possible. However, placement availability varies by region and specialty area. In locations with limited options, students may be required to travel up to 125 miles each way to fulfill clinical education requirements and gain experience across multiple practice settings.

Building Clinical Confidence

Clinical experiences provide opportunities to apply classroom learning in real-world environments. Working directly with clients under supervision helps students strengthen clinical skills, develop professional confidence, and prepare for future licensure and certification pathways.

I chose Thiel because I believed I would be cared for by the staff, given the college’s smaller size. I can say confidently that my expectations have been fulfilled.

The best part was weeks two and three. You start going into therapy sessions with your clients and professors to develop a plan of care.
